Skardu, Basho and Hunza by Air: 8 Days

Overview

Take it slowly: three days around Skardu, an off-road day in Basho valley or on the Deosai Plains, then Gilgit and Hunza for Rakaposhi, Attabad Lake, Passu and the Khunjerab Pass before flying home from Skardu.

Day by day

1. Day 1

   Fly to Skardu: Shangrila and Upper Kachura Lake

   The flight only runs on clear days; watch for Nanga Parbat and K2 on the way. We meet you at Skardu airport and drive to Shangrila Resort and Upper Kachura Lake. Night in Skardu.

2. Day 2

   Manthoka and Khamosh waterfalls

   Kharmang valley for Manthoka and Khamosh waterfalls, then back to Skardu for the night.

3. Day 3

   Katpana, Shigar and Sarfaranga

   Katpana lake and desert, Sadpara Lake, Blind Lake, Shigar valley and fort, and the Sarfaranga cold desert. Night in Skardu.

4. Day 4

   Basho valley or Deosai, then Gilgit

   Off-road day in a shared jeep: Basho valley, bridge, village and meadows, or the Deosai Plains with Bara Pani, Kala Pani and Sheosar Lake. Then drive to Gilgit for the night.

5. Day 5

   Gilgit to Hunza

   Short stops at Astak Nala and the Rakaposhi viewpoint, then Karimabad bazaar. Night in Hunza.

6. Day 6

   Attabad Lake to the China border

   Attabad Lake, Passu Cones, Sost and the Khunjerab Pass on the China border. Night in Hunza.

7. Day 7

   Altit Fort, back to Skardu

   Altit Fort and Karimabad bazaar, then the drive back to Skardu. Night in Skardu.

8. Day 8

   Fly home

   Visit any place you missed as time allows, then drop-off at Skardu airport for your flight.

Good to know

• Direct flights (PIA or Airblue): daily from Islamabad, four a week from Lahore, and from Karachi. Tell us your preferred dates and we will check seats.
• The Skardu flight only flies in clear weather. On the way you may see Nanga Parbat and K2.
• This is a private tour: we can change the plan around the places you most want to see.
• Children under 10: PKR 30,000 each.
• The Deosai and Basho day uses a shared 4×4 jeep.
• Hotels listed are for Skardu; we book Gilgit and Hunza hotels of the same standard.
